Overview

This hands-on workshop will explore both wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery and sculptural forms, and drawing/painting on clay with a focus on building a personal approach to form and imagery/design. Participants are encouraged to bring sketches, visual resources and doodles to guide their work in the studio. We’ll focus on basic forming and painting, but also on strategies for creating individual pottery/sculpture forms. We may take a fairly eclectic approach to firing allowing us to move toward high fire oxidation or reduction firings and also into soda firing. Suitable for beginning – advanced levels, or, for drawing/painting students wishing to crossover into clay work. We will conduct a few excursions around the island on easy days.
